Vermont Slate

Slate was formed four million years ago when fine-grained ocean sediments turned to stone. In Vermont, where bedrock peeks through the soil, we call it "ledge". These rough-hewn slate trays, with their unpolished, tapering edges showing slate's natural cleavage, make unique placemats, serving trays or coasters.

ANCIENT GRAFFITI strives to bring the beauty of our natural world nearer to our daily lives. Embracing forms of simplicity and function, they have an ongoing partnership with some of Vermont's finest artists and designers offering a collection honest in its materials: wood, clay, slate, stone, iron, brass and copper.
